There really are moments..............

When I am SO happy..............

I Heart Faces - Nostalgia

The little face, the chubby little hands on the juice box, the chocolate on his face and the big blue eyes. I so wish that they would stay the same size forever but on the other hand I can't wait to see how this journey will turn out! A Mother's Dilemma.........

Taking Off

There is that moment - that moment just before take off - when the engines roar and you know you are about to fly.

We told the two youngest ones that the button that you push on your seat to recline your seat is the button that you push to help the plane blast off.

They were bouncing in their seats and squealing with excitement. As the plan started to take off the Noodle giggled and gasped and said, "Mommy - it's WORKING!!!!!!!"

.....and then we were in the air and it was magic.

How to amuse a boy for hours

Give him a ball

And something to hit it with and you are good!

If all else fails - any kind of screen with flashing images will work.

Note from the author - above observations have also been noted in my husband.

Getting ready to go back to school

So I have to begin this post with a little story............

We are the lucky parents who got to face the tough decision of what to do with our Summer Birthday Middle Child - affectionately known here at I Heart Bowheads as - The Noodle.

I will not go into the decision making process in detail here for the sake of helping out with the brevity and consecutive readability of this post but I will say

It was an intensive process

Once our decision was made - we sat the Noodle down and told her the big news. That she was going to get to go to Junior Kindergarten at her preschool (a place we really really really really really - I could go on - do you get my point?) love.

She started off confused, "but Mommy I already goed there?"

The Mommy, " Yes Baby but you would get to go there for Kindergarten - every day - just like Sister."

The Noodle, "Mommy - Kindergawten is EBEWY DAY????????? Oh Mommy - I cannot POSSIBWLY do dat!"

To answer your next and most obvious question - yes we have had the Noodles speech tested - she falls right on the low end of normal and we will continue to monitor it although I secretly hope it hangs around for awhile - she provides me with such good material. People tell me all the time that they love my impressions of her. She is quite expressive, has a huge vocabulary and some unusual articulation quirks so she is very fun to imitate. (Behind her back of course - I mean - really - what kind of mother do you think I am?)

Anyway - I have REALLY digressed here as is my usual custom - so sorry :)

She is now VERY excited about Junior Kindergarten for a variety of reasons but I am finally going to get around to the point of this post and share with you my Noodle's

NUMBER ONE REASON TO BE EXCITED TO GET TO GO TO JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN

Da LUNCHBOX

Yes - the lunchbox. Not the teacher, not the new friends, not the classroom - she is SO excited about her lunchbox. This was made even more exciting when her very best boyfriend in the world insisted to his Mommy that he purchase her the monkey lunchbox. (Those two really are soul mates - destined to be together - but that is another long post. :)

Anyway - back to the lunchbox. We have this conversation daily - yes daily - sometimes twice daily.........

Noodle - Mommy - can you pack me Bologna?

Mommy - Yes Baby

Noodle - Mommy - can you pack me Turkey?

Me - Yes Baby

Noodle - Mommy - do ya think dat she (teacher) would let me eat a banana muffin?

Me - Yes Baby I imagine so

Noodle (almost always with a sigh) Man - I am going to lub Kindagaurden.

I Heart Faces - Funny Silly Face

Not Me Monday

I am NOT lamenting the disrepair of the DVD player in my minivan.
I am NOT dependant on that thing.
We do NOT call my van the Roach Coach.
On that subject - I have NOT been known to put my crockpot in it's entirety in the back of my van to spoon up bowlfuls of food to the children out of the back of my car.
I was NOT wildly excited when I found a Crock Pot carrier. There is no way that I let out a small squeal in Kohls when I saw it. That would be a little sad. Right?
I did NOT drive through McDonalds as a treat for the children one day this week after soccer camp. They were NOT so excited that they were chanting, "Mommy is the greatest! Mommy is the greatest!" ........as we went through the drive through.
I do NOT have to cut this post short because there is no way that my children are having a knock down drag out fight as I slowly finish typing before I go check and make sure that someone is NOT bleeding.
Nope NOT ME!

Ode to a Goldfish

Oh my goldfish
Small and cheesy
You are so handy, small and easy

You can sit in A LOT of degrees
Still be tasty and help me please
Small children who snack a lot
When the weather is beastly hot

Yogurt, cucumbers, strawberries too
Healthy yes - but I tell you
Hard to pack and keep appealing
When the weather keeps on beating

So Goldfish right now
You are my friend
As are pretzels but no more time will I spend
On odes to food - I already feel
That I have lost my mind talking about this small meal.

Happy day to you oh Moms
Enjoy your snacks, small meals, kabobs
Whatever helps you through the day
With small children that eat more than play.

Once Upon a Time in a Cruel Cruel World

There was a wonderful and good little boy. He never did anything wrong and he never cried for silly reasons - ahem - hold on one second for the author of this story and the Mommy to get a hold of herself and keep typing. Anyway - he really is a good little boy and his only wish in life is the peacefully exist with long hair..........

really? Is that too much to ask?

He doesn't think so.

Unfortunately - he looks a little bit like a Q-tip when his hair gets too long so into every little life - a little hair cut must come.
The poor little man needs his Daddy to be closely involved in the process. Normally the Mommy is in no way involved in this process because Mommy does not always want to be the bad guy but this time - the Mommy went to photograph the entire thing. That is another sad part of a cruel cruel world (in the young Mans mind anyway) is the photo journalists who find it necessary to record every humiliation to show at things like graduation parties in the future.
Once again - the author of this post continues to digress but the recipient of this haircut was not at all happy.
He screamed -

MY EYES MY EYES
When the Hair Diddle Diddle woman - yes - to answer your next question - it does add to the cruel cruel world nature of the hair cut to have to go to a place called Hair Diddle Diddle to be tortured. Just typing the name out sort of makes me cringe........ anyway - whenever she got anywhere near him with the clippers he would shout

Ouch Ouch Ouch Ouch Ouch
We just shrugged our shoulders and told him, "thems the breaks kid!"

In a Cruel Cruel World - really not sure how he manages!

Another Glorious Mommy Moment

So this morning was hard - I won't lie - it was hard. All three kids were tired and fussy from a very busy weekend and getting them out the door and off to soccer camp was - well - hard.......

I finally got there - I made it - everyone poured out of the mini van and I practically kicked my 7 year old out onto the field and I felt this huge surge of excitement and FRUSTRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Jessica Parker - no sane person should have to endure what I had just been through in the last hour and a half. I mean - it was only 9:00 and I felt - well - sigh.............

So - we had made it - I did it - the correct child was delivered to the correct place at the correct time wearing the correct clothes and I threw my head to the sky - literally - and shrieked - yes - I howled at the moon. I think I might have even jumped up and down and stamped my feet - just a little bit - although I am not confirming or denying that one.

Anyway - it was a blood curdling shriek.........

Then I looked up - the first face I saw was one of my favorites - a Mom of 4 under the age of 7 who totally gets it and totally gets me. I saw an eyebrow go up and then the big grin as she started walking quickly towards me just to make sure that I was really fine. Then I panned over to basically all of the parents on my oldest daughters soccer team - standing in a row - mouths agape and then - once again - spreading slowly into grins. (Basically once it was clear that I was not going to go completely postal on them. They all had that look on their faces, "well better her than me".)

I sighed - ok - phew - who cares really about what those other 15 parents who are sitting there staring at me like I have just lost my mind think - not me - well - not me at that point.

Then - I saw it - a very sweet, very concerned Mom from my Moms club scurried up and put her arm around me.......

"Are you ok? You scared me to death? I have never seen you do that!" (I almost asked her if she had ever seen ANYONE do that but she really is a nice lady so I didn't want her to think I was being sarcastic.)

I said - well - better shriek at the sky than at the children - right?

I think I might have to make that my new motto - hmmmmmm............ well we'll see - a person can only have so many mottos - right?
