So this week was Vacation Bible School
I was in charge of crafts
There were 140 children enrolled
Thus ends my explanation of my most recent blog hiatus.......
Anyway.....
all week long
I kept hearing these whispers......
TUESDAY
I loaded up all three children, all three Bible Buddies, 6 shoes, 140 crafts, and every last shred of patience.....
got behind the wheel
took a sip of coffee
and sighed with relief.....
Then I heard a whisper....
"Holly - go back inside".
um no - I tell whisper - I have it all - I KNOW I have it all
"Holly - go back inside"
I sigh - I go back inside and there - on the island - is the huge bag of sharpie markers - without which - there is no Tuesday craft.
WEDNESDAY
The craft is going pretty well - I think
We get to the youngest group and decide to modify the craft
I am sitting on the floor of the gym having this internal monologue with myself.
"Come on Holly - you should have known better - you should have modified this craft - what if this is a terrible craft? I never should have pushed for this idea. People are probably talking about how terrible this craft is. I wonder what the teachers think....."
Then, one of the co-directors came up to me as I was silently sitting on the floor assembling crafts and whispered in my ear
"Holly - this is the CUTEST craft! I have seen so many happy faces leaving your area. We are so lucky to have you and you are doing a great job."
THURSDAY
I am tired
Vacation Bible School fatigue is setting in.
I am dropping the children off in their classes and I drop a bag.
As I bend over to get it my 5 year old wraps both skinny arms tight around my neck and whispers into my year.
"I love my Momma"
FRIDAY
We wrap up the week
God is Good
Children are happy
We leave Vacation Bible School and as we are walking to the car my three year old is singing very softly to himself - almost in a whisper....
"Shout to da east and da west, sing to da nowth and da south, Jesus is Saviow to all, Lowd of Heben and Eawth...."
(Just in case you don't read 3 year old speak - Shout to the east and the west, sing to the north and the south. Jesus is Savior to all, Lord of Heaven and Earth.)
Thank you Jesus for whispering in my ear all week. I will listen hard for what you have to say to me in the next.
